Selection guide

Which wire mesh should you choose for your fence?

Start with the application and the terrain, then compare mesh opening, wire diameter, finish and height. Choose the mesh together with posts, fixings and anchors.

Fencing comparison: a guide to choosing
Your requirementsProducts to considerSelection criteria
Uneven ground and sloping boundariesGalvanised chain-link fencing / Plastic-coated chain-link fencingFlexible diamond mesh. Check the height, wire diameter and support configuration.
Gardens and boundaries requiring a regular meshGalvanised welded wire mesh / Plastic-coated welded wire meshWelded intersections. Compare mesh opening and wire diameter: different variants suit different applications.
Pastures and large agricultural areasHinge-joint field fencingGraduated mesh and reinforced edges. Choose the configuration and height for the animals concerned.
Areas exposed to wild boarDouble-twist wild boar fencingDedicated mesh; barrier performance also depends on anchoring, the ground interface and closed access points.
Lightweight enclosures for poultry and small animalsHexagonal wire nettingCheck the mesh opening and enclosure requirements. This is not equivalent to a wild boar barrier.
Rigid panel fencingPlastic-coated modular fence panelsA modular fence with dedicated posts and fixings. Plan the layout for changes in level.

Galvanised or PVC-coated?

Galvanising protects the steel wire. PVC coating adds a further layer and a coloured finish. Look beyond colour: consider the environment, declared specifications and maintenance.

Service life cannot be assumed to be the same for all fencing without knowing the coating and exposure conditions.

Mesh opening, wire diameter and height

Choose the mesh opening for what needs to be contained or separated. Compare wire diameters between equivalent products: diameter alone does not describe the strength of a complete fence.

Distinguish between the mesh height above ground, the total post height and the section used for anchoring.

Selection and installation

Which components do you need?

Prepare a complete enquiry

  1. Intended use and, for livestock fencing, the animals to be contained.
  2. Fence length and required height above ground.
  3. Ground or wall installation, slopes, corners and openings.
  4. Mesh type, finish and any product codes already selected.
  5. Components you already have, quantities and delivery location.

If you do not know the product codes yet, describe your project and ask us for selection advice.
